Eco House Interior Pictures

When designing this home I wanted to pull the exterior into the interior. In most of the living spaces you are surrounded by windows and yet have a sense of privacy although everything opens up to a bigger space. The entire house feels very serene.

Eco House Exterior Pictures

I was invited to Springdale to visit a home I designed at the mouth of Zions Canyon. The home owner was so gracious to welcome myself and the team that helped build this incredible place!

My favorite cabinet maker Scott Adams, myself, gracious homeowner, and the talented contractor & his wife.

The home owner gave me the freedom with this home to understand and best utilize the site and its environment. I was able to take advantage of the beautiful location by creating courtyards and outdoor living spaces with incredible views along with angled walls, angled ceilings and step detail to mimic nature. I wanted the roof lines to mimic the lines of the cliffs all around. The house itself is positioned on the lot to take into account large rocks, trees and a natural wash. To allow the exterior of the home to blend into the natural surroundings I used limestone plaster and stone. I wanted to create a feeling that the house had always been there- like a great ruin that was discovered and built around.

Yale Crest Home Addition

Just around the corner from the 1920’s kitchen remodel you see below I am doing an addition to a home in the Yale Crest district. I always try to blend whatever new element I am adding into the existing so it looks like it has always been that way. With this home it was an interesting design challenge to work with the specific requirements the Yale Crest district has such as preserving existing trees. It will be fun to see this addition of a master bedroom, master bathroom, garage and courtyard on the south side of the house take shape.

If you are thinking of remodeling or adding an addition to your home come in for a free discovery meeting and we can discuss ideas!

1920’s Kitchen Remodel

For this kitchen remodel the basic idea was to have the kitchen scale work with the original home which was built in 1920. I didn’t want it to feel out of proportion with the rest of the house (which over the years has had some remodeling to open up ceilings and a wall removed to create a great room).
I selected white oak for the cabinets (stained to match some existing furniture in the home) which was typical in the arts and crafts era. To modernize the space I used concrete counters.

The concrete on the island has inset marbles which creates such a sense of playfulness!

Here you can see I removed a wall to further open up the floor plan.
