Design Influences

March 8th, 2018

Excavation has started on my new build and I can’t wait to see the building begin. As I’ve been reflecting on the loss of my mother this past week, her influence in my work has been on my mind. Both of my parents were such wonderful influences and role models in my life. My mom among many of her talents had a gift for sewing and wallpapering. I attribute much of my skills in putting colors and textures together to her. And if you’ve been through my homes you’ll know I’ve always loved and used wallpaper (even through the years when it wasn’t as popular). These images are from my personal home I just sold. I even had wallpaper on the back of my closets and on my kitchen ceiling.

My dad was an electronic engineer and as such influenced the detail and structural qualities in my designs early on. I started designing homes at the age of fifteen and my parents would drive me around to see all the local home shows. My dad loved landscaping and working with and observing him I picked up the important qualities of scale and proportion. What qualities do you attribute to your parents? I’m grateful for the positive influences my parents left with me both professionally and personally.

Goodbye to The Timothy House

November 22nd, 2015

At the end of this summer I said goodbye to the rental home I spent the last three years in and fondly referred to as, The Timothy House.  I moved in to this house anticipating a shorter residence, but this home and neighborhood were really good to me and I didn’t mind extending the stay.

I’d like to say, thank you to Unique Deliveries who always does a great job of moving me!

It’s so much fun to see this custom home under construction!  We started the plans almost two years ago, so the anticipation has definitely had time to grow.  It is going to be a beautiful home!

The kitchen  was light and simple with only one countertop material and cabinet faced appliances, yet there is enough black to still ground everything.  Notice all the different metal finishes used in the kitchen.

This wonderful space stretches from the entry to the kids bedrooms.

The placement of the wet bar around the corner from the kitchen is great for entertaining.

The more informal family room was very livable.  Notice how pretty the parquet floors were.

The black and white color scheme is also used in the powder bath with striking results.

The view out this back door just draws you to the courtyard.

I really like the versatility of house plans with two master suites.

Wonderful paneling going down the stairs.

As much I didn’t want to exit the house, this was a nice mudroom to exit from.

Trend towards smaller home sizes continues.

As the trend towards smaller home sizes continues some of the home plans that I designed towards the beginning of my career are relevant again.  I have always tried to create timeless design and I think that quality in my home plans can be seen in this early collection named New Beginnings.  These plans are still for sale as stock plans.  Look for more of the New Beginnings collection later this week.  Please call if you are interested 801-292-1512.

A Kitchen with Heart!

Kitchens truely are the heart of  the home.

I was so happy to help my friends remodel their kitchen and they are so happy to have it complete.  They were very patient in deciding what they wanted and what would best suit their family.  The result is stunning.
