Timeless Quality

December 11th, 2017

Many of you got to tour our Holiday House last week. What did you think? Here is a mini tour for those of you who missed it. I designed this home over 21 years ago with a look that lasts for a test of time and function. The home was originally designed for the homeowners and their small children and now is the perfect gathering spot for their grown children and grandchildren!

DuMc Place Kitchen

November 20th, 2017

Last year I hosted Thanksgiving in my DuMc home kitchen.  I’ve since sold this home and I am  will be missing my kitchen this year. We might not all have the ideal home for hosting Thanksgiving. But we all have the ideal home for giving thanks!

Cafe Sabor St. George

November 16th, 2017

I’ve always loved the food at Cafe Sabor. I’ve eaten at their Logan location for going on 13 years. So I was thrilled when asked to design their new location in St. George. It’s in the historical district and many buildings in the area have a triangulated pediment above the entry. You’ll see I recreated the same pediment above the entry of Cafe Sabor. The overall idea was to give the space a warehouse feel. It not the stereotypical style for a Mexican restaurant because the food is not stereotypical!

Inside I created two open dining rooms. One dining area is on a upper level with accordion type windows to allow for connection of indoor and outdoor spaces. Since St. George has such beautiful weather the windows will be able to be opened up most of the year. Make sure you stop by next time you are in St. George!

Cougar Rock St. George Home

September 25th, 2017

I spent the weekend at my home in St. George. It is my home away from home, my escape, my island. When designing the home I wanted the architecture to blend in with St. George’s stunning red rocks and overall environment. I kept the exterior and interior spaces cohesive but brightened up the interior space through furnishings with lighter fabrics and textures to provide more of a resort feel. Here is a peek at the entrance and main living area.

USD SP17 Cover 3-1

The article reads: “In Bountiful, designer/architect Robert McArthur added a skylight to deliver light to a windowless laundry room and used shelves and open cabinets to create a feeling of openness and space. Custom copper-finished tiles and hand-made accent garden tiles animate the room, as does a large-floral wallcovering. ‘Wallpaper adds a little drama to the mundane task of doing laundry,’ he says. An expandable, hanging rack adds function and flexibility.”

Herm’s Inn Addition

February 24th, 2017

Last night Herm’s Inn celebrated their 5 year anniversary. Can you believe it has been 5 years since I worked with JayDee Barr Construction on this restaurant remodel? If you haven’t been to Logan and eaten at Herm’s Inn…Go!

I am in the process of designing an addition to meet the growing demands of the restaurant. When you combine amazing food with beautiful architecture it’s no wonder every table is always full. We are adding a beautiful patio to not only seat more customers but to allow for expansion of events.

In case you missed the original renovation here are some of the before and after pictures. Herm’s Inn was originally built in the 20’s. It only operated for a few years and was then abandoned. The owner of Herm’s Inn also owns Cache Valley Electric so with the renovation I incorporated an electrical aesthetic while giving credit to the original structure.

The overall feel of the building is harmonious between the use of new materials and the historic features. The flooring that you’ll see throughout the main dining area is actually tile that I had laid to look like wood flooring. I used limestone walls in the lower level (where you will find private dining and reception rooms) to give a nod to the historic stone walls that were used in the foundation of the original building.
