It was my great opportunity to work with Stephen R. Covey and his wife Sandra. My heart felt sorrow at Stephen’s passing. I was fortunate to work with him and his wife for 4 years. I worked with them on their Cabin in Sundance as well as their home in Provo. The overall home was a tribute to life and experiences with family and it was a joy to help them incorporate such meaning into their home. Their home was named Redhill Manor after a home they lived in while in Ireland on a LDS mission.

Stephen and Sandra have a certain belief system that they wanted to carry through the architecture and interior of the home. They wanted the home to be oriented on a “True North” axis. The compass symbolizes the direction of wise moral integrity. In the heart of the home there is a literal compass designed into the center of the floor.

There were several elements designed into the home to pay tribute to Stephen and Sandra’s pioneer heritage. We had fruits that are common to Provo hand carved into the beams in the Family Room.  This was to be a permanent reminder that the fruits harvested in the family are our children/progenitors. To carry this concept into a modern day image, Sandra had a family wall that was a carryover from her previous home. The entire wall, floor to ceiling, was devoted to pictures of the family and extended family.  She wanted to see her family in action and it provided a way for her children to relate to their relatives.

The library was filled with quotes and scriptures painted onto panels. You can see the beauty of the hand carved wood work.

Stephen and Sandra wanted the home to be inviting for their 9 living children and many grandchildren. It was important that they had space to accommodate their large family comfortably when they came to visit. You can see a bit of European influence in the art work of the home. The Mother Goose painting seen below depicts the Covey children’s favorite nursery rhymes and stories.

Stephen and Sandra have influenced so many people and I have appreciated their influence on me. I am so fortunate to have worked with such a great family. I want only the best for Sandra and her family. Thanks Stephen and Sandra for letting me be a part of their life.
