1920’s Kitchen Remodel

October 15th, 2013

For this kitchen remodel the basic idea was to have the kitchen scale work with the original home which was built in 1920. I didn’t want it to feel out of proportion with the rest of the house (which over the years has had some remodeling to open up ceilings and a wall removed to create a great room).

I selected white oak for the cabinets (stained to match some existing furniture in the home) which was typical in the arts and crafts era. To modernize the space I used concrete counters.

The concrete on the island has inset marbles which creates such a sense of playfulness!

Here you can see I removed a wall to further open up the floor plan.
