International Builders Show

January 24th, 2011

At the International Builders Show in Orlando Florida:

  • Old ideas are new again
  • Timeless design/classic details never go out of style
  • It is better to be simpler than complex, yet details are very important

These ideas are exemplified in the ‘New American Home’ that was on display:

Notice the proportion of columns to trellis

Fireplace with a beautiful metal insert in the stone. Also note how the display shelves are set back from the fireplace face.

The panel moldings have the same banding effect as the great room fireplace. Panel work continues on the doors. Continuity is important when there is a lot of detail.

Even the detail in the ceiling was consistent with the rest of the home.

In the kitchen banding detail continues in hood and backsplash.

Banding detail continues right down to the countertop edge.

Now notice the combination of banding and circles. I hope you've noticed that the vertical surfaces are detailed the same and all the horizontal details have the same design.

The pop up feature of electrical outlets in the kitchen countertop was genius!
